PRS Unveils the Astryx: Dany Villarreal's First Signature Guitar
Her new PRS ships in plain standard tuning at a 10-46 gauge, a contrast worth noting from a guitarist who runs her baritone Stratocaster through a tuning she says she doesn't recommend to anyone.

Dany VillarrealPRS unveiled the Astryx Limited Edition on August 25, 2026, its first signature guitar built with The Warning's Dany Villarreal. It's a 200-unit take on the Custom 24: figured maple top, mahogany back, ebony fretboard with Solecito sun inlays, and an Ocaso sunset finish. PRS's own spec sheet lists factory strings as 10-46 gauge in standard tuning; UK dealer pricing runs about £5,800. It arrives the same week as The Warning's fifth album, Everything's Falling, out August 28.

One of the most important things for me in a guitar is that it feels like an extension of my body and that I can trust it and just do my thing. Ever since I tried my first PRS guitar, it's been an inseparable relationship. With PRS, I feel powerful and confident, and that's a feeling that once you find, you don't want to let go of.
The Warning
The name "Astryx" comes from the root word for "star," and the Solecito ("little sun") inlay at the 12th fret nods to Villarreal's Mexican heritage. Before this signature model, a PRS SE Mark Holcomb SVN was already part of her touring arsenal, per Guitar World's launch coverage.
The strings and tuning, straight from PRS's own sheet
PRS's own spec sheet, not mentioned in the outlets CYS reviewed covering this launch, lists the Astryx's factory strings simply as "PRS Signature 10-46," strung to standard E-A-D-G-B-E tuning. PRS doesn't say which brand makes that set, but the gauge itself is common: Ernie Ball's Regular Slinky (.010-.046) and D'Addario's EXL110 (.010-.046) are both the identical size, and either drops onto the Astryx as a direct factory-match replacement.
That plain, conventional setup is worth pointing out precisely because it's not how Villarreal always plays. Her Fender Baritone Stratocaster, used extensively on The Warning's 2024 album Keep Me Fed, runs a far stranger tuning she walked Guitar World through in her own words rather than a clean formula: the low string dropped all the way to A, a middle string deliberately left at G "instead of a G flat or F sharp," and a second string without the semitone offset a normal guitar has, so that, in her words, "if I play a chord, it's not gonna sound like a chord." Her own verdict on it: "I don't recommend you to do that, but for me, it works." The new PRS Astryx is not that guitar, and it ships tuned like almost anything else in a music store.
Who Dany Villarreal is
Villarreal is the guitarist and lead vocalist of The Warning, a rock trio she formed with her sisters Paulina and Alejandra in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2013. The band broke out with a viral cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and has since toured with Guns N' Roses, Muse, and Foo Fighters, per Guitar World. She's a longtime PRS-sponsored artist: Wikipedia documents a PRS Custom 24-08 and a 40th Anniversary Pearl model Paul Reed Smith gave her personally at a January 2025 event, plus non-PRS gifts from other artists, including a Gibson Explorer from Lzzy Hale of Halestorm and a Manson ORYX VI from Matt Bellamy of Muse. Full sourcing on her rig is in her CYS profile.
Price, availability, and the album this week
PRS hasn't published a US price on its own product page. UK dealer Peach Guitars lists the Astryx at £5,800 as a pre-order guide price, in the same range as PRS's other 10-Top Limited Edition Custom 24 variants on that same site (£5,699 to £6,850). The guitar arrives the same week as The Warning's fifth studio album, Everything's Falling, out August 28, 2026, three days after the Astryx launch.
