Dany Villarreal: The Warning's guitarist and PRS's newest signature artist

Dany Villarreal is the guitarist and lead vocalist of The Warning. PRS gave her a signature model, the Astryx, on August 25, 2026, strung 10-46 gauge in standard tuning, a contrast to the far stranger tuning she runs on her Fender Baritone Stratocaster.

Dany Villarreal is the guitarist and lead vocalist of The Warning, a rock trio formed by three sisters in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2013. She became a PRS featured artist and received her first signature model, the Astryx Limited Edition, on August 25, 2026. PRS's own spec sheet lists the guitar's factory strings as 10-46 gauge in standard tuning, while her Fender Baritone Stratocaster runs a much lower, unconventional tuning on record.

Dany Villarreal, born Daniela Villarreal Vélez on January 30, 2000, is the guitarist and lead vocalist of The Warning, a rock trio she formed with her sisters Paulina and Alejandra in San Pedro Garza García, near Monterrey, Mexico, in 2013. The band broke onto the metal-adjacent side of rock with a cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" that racked up tens of millions of views, and has since shared stages with Guns N' Roses, Muse, and Foo Fighters.

Her first signature guitar: the PRS Astryx

On August 25, 2026, PRS unveiled the Astryx Limited Edition, a 200-unit Custom 24 variant built with Villarreal, her first signature model. It carries a figured 10-Top maple top over mahogany, a Pattern Thin mahogany neck, an ebony fretboard with Solecito ("little sun") inlays that nod to her Mexican heritage, and an Ocaso ("sunset") finish fading through purple, pink, orange, and yellow. Every unit ships with a backplate she personally signs.

One of the most important things for me in a guitar is that it feels like an extension of my body and that I can trust it and just do my thing. Ever since I tried my first PRS guitar, it's been an inseparable relationship.

PRS's own spec sheet lists the Astryx's factory strings as "PRS Signature 10-46," strung to standard E-A-D-G-B-E tuning. Full details, pricing, and sourcing are in CYS's launch breakout.

The rest of her arsenal

Villarreal is a longtime PRS-sponsored artist. Per Wikipedia, she also plays a PRS Custom 24-08 and a 40th Anniversary Pearl model that Paul Reed Smith gave her personally at PRS's 40th Anniversary Event in January 2025, where Orianthi also gifted her one of Orianthi's own PRS signature guitars onstage. Her collection extends beyond PRS too: a Gibson Explorer gifted by Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, and a mustard-yellow Manson ORYX VI gifted by Matt Bellamy of Muse.

Her most-documented non-PRS instrument is a Fender Baritone Stratocaster, used extensively on The Warning's 2024 album Keep Me Fed. She described its tuning to Guitar World in her own words rather than a clean formula: the low string dropped all the way to A, a middle string deliberately left at G "instead of a G flat or F sharp," and a second string without the semitone offset a normal guitar has, so that, in her words, "if I play a chord, it's not gonna sound like a chord." Her own assessment: "I don't recommend you to do that, but for me, it works."

Strings for the gauge PRS specs

PRS doesn't say which brand makes its "PRS Signature 10-46" set, but the gauge itself is common. Either of these drops onto the Astryx, or any similarly strung electric, as a like-for-like replacement.
