Who is Distant

Distant is a deathcore band formed in 2014 by guitarist and songwriter Nouri Yetgin and bassist Elmer Maurits, recording and touring as a Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Bratislava, Slovakia-based act (Wikipedia). Their debut, Tyrannotophia, arrived in 2019 via Unique Leader Records, followed by Aeons Of Oblivion in 2021. They signed to Century Media Records ahead of 2023's Heritage, then released Tsukuyomi: The Origin in 2024, a reimagined version of their 2017 EP featuring guest spots from Alex Erian of Despised Icon, Matt Heafy of Trivium, and others. Into Despair is their fifth studio album, per Wikipedia's discography.

The single: Suffocation's Ricky Myers guests on 'All Will Be (N)One'

Distant describes "All Will Be (N)One" as "a bleak, atmospheric track that explores humanity's fear of death and the inevitability of time's collapse," building "a sense of slow-burning dread before erupting into moments of raw confrontation," with lyrics that shift "from resistance to acceptance" (Knotfest).

The featured vocalist, Ricky Myers, fronts Suffocation, one of death metal's foundational bands, a role he took on after longtime frontman Frank Mullen stepped back. Distant called on him for the song's guest verse as the first proper introduction to Into Despair's sound.

The gear angle: Nouri Yetgin's VanderMeij Fleshweaver

Yetgin is a VanderMeij signature artist. Beyond the brand's Magistra model, he co-developed his own instrument, the Fleshweaver, an X-shaped 7-string built in a limited run of just 25 (VanderMeij). Spec per VanderMeij's own sheet: 28-inch scale, a Sungkai body, three-piece hard maple neck, Macassar ebony fretboard, and a single handwound Fleshweaver bridge pickup, which the builder says is voiced for "tight, fast low end" and "down-tuned chugs."

VanderMeij's own copy describes the guitar as designed to work "even with the heaviest and lowest tunings," in line with downtempo deathcore's genre convention of extreme low tunings, typically Drop A and below on a 7-string. No interview or spec sheet we could find confirms Yetgin's own exact tuning, so treat that as genre context rather than a documented personal spec. For a 7-string built around that range, CYS's closest catalog match is the Ernie Ball 7-String Regular Slinky Cobalt, .010 to .056, built for Drop A and B-standard playing. Full sourced breakdown of Yetgin's documented gear lives on his CYS profile.

Is Distant touring?

Per Knotfest, Distant recently wrapped European touring runs alongside Thrown and, separately, supporting Sylosis. Their next extended live stretch is the New World Killer EU/UK 2027 tour, co-billed with Spite, Emmure, and Mauled.
