How we pick
We rank strings from published specs and documented artist use, not from our own testing. We have not lab-tested these sets. When you buy through an Amazon link, we earn a commission.
Where the information comes from
- Maker specs: gauges, materials, coatings and part numbers from the string maker's own product pages.
- Tension charts published by the makers, when they publish them. If a maker doesn't, we say so instead of estimating.
- Artist and producer claims from interviews, gear features and other sources we link on the page. If we can't source it, it doesn't go on the page.
How we rank
The finder and the genre pages score each set against your genre and tuning. Gauge fit counts most: a set whose low string suits the tuning (for example, a .052 low string for Drop D) beats one that doesn't. Sets tagged for your genre and tuning add to the score, and so does documented use by artists in that genre. A set that doesn't fit the tuning's gauge range is dropped, not just ranked lower.
The ranking is a rule applied to data we collected. It is not a verdict from playing every set, and it can be wrong for your guitar, your hands and your taste.
Availability
When we add or update a product, we check that the Amazon listing is the same product and is in stock. Stock changes, so a link can go out of stock after we check. If you find a bad link, tell us at hello@changeyourstrings.com.
What we have not done
- We have not lab-tested these sets.
- Many pages are written with AI help and checked against the sources they list. Pages say so.
- We don't accept paid placements or pay-for-ranking.
